Welcome to My New Library and Information Science Blog

Welcome to My Library and Information Science Blog!
Hello and welcome! My name is Rachel Wilson and I am a current graduate student of the Library and Information Science program and the University of South Carolina. I am a fourth-year elementary teacher, and teach 2nd graders.
My husband and I moved from southeastern Kentucky to the Myrtle Beach area in 2015 to start his job where he hand blends pipe tobacco. We just celebrated our 8th anniversary on New Year’s Day and my 28th birthday on January 4th!
I have always enjoyed reading and going to libraries. I used to pretend I was a librarian in Kindergarten who checked out books to my peers by writing my classmate’s initials on the covers of my books at home . In middle school, I “evolved” my librarian skills by creating an Excel sheet with pretend names, dates, and due dates for the books at home. So, needless to say, I’ve always thought librarians were the coolest!
I want to be an elementary school librarian and aspire to instill the love of reading and finding information for students. Creating a genre-based school library and creating a social-emotional environment for students are a couple of my main goals I currently have for when I become a school librarian. I want students to feel safe and like they can be themselves when they enter through the school library doors.
I am hoping to utilize this blog to promote deeper learning experiences and interactions with others in the Library and Information Science field. I am excited to be a part of this learning experience and hope I can contribute something worthwhile through my profession.
-Rachel
